Press Release: decision taken in the USA, pulling taxpayer funding for abortions overseas
Brussels, February 7th., 2017
European Federation “One of Us” applauds the decision taken in the executive order signed by President Donald Trump, officially pulling taxpayer funding for abortions overseas, reversing former President Obama’s destruction of what is known as the Mexico City Policy.
This executive decision embodies the spirit of the European Citizens’ Initiative One of Us, in which 2 million European citizens demanded the European Commission and legislators to ban the funding of measures involving the destruction of human embryos, of human lives. This ECI goes against any economic aid from the EU in experimentation with human embryos as well as the financial support to development aid organizations whose destination is the elimination of human lives through the abortion business.
In 1984, Population Conference, President Reagan initially announced the so-called Mexico City Policy. Mexico City policy prevented funding of groups that promote or perform abortions overseas. The Mexico City Policy covered over $400 million in federal funds, part of which flowed to the abortion businesses International Planned Parenthood and Marie Stopes International, for their foreign efforts. This Mexico City policy had been in place during the entirety of the Bush administration and Obama rescinded it during first week in office.
The Executive Memorandum to reinstate the Mexico City Policy stops taxpayer funding of groups that perform and promote abortions overseas but does not stop non-abortion international assistance. The order ensures U.S. foreign aid will continue to go to health care and humanitarian relief in the millions of dollars.
One of Us Federation President, Mr. Jaime Mayor Oreja “welcomes this action to promote respect for all human life, including vulnerable unborn children abroad, as well as conscience rights, sends a strong signal about the defense of human lives“.
